Nominated for
Standing Committee
The Rev. Willy Crespo
St. Matthew’s, National City
Nominee’s Bio: I was born in New York City. I worked for the prison system as a chaplain for over 25 years, then retired. I was rector at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church for 17 years, then retired. I was interim priest-in-charge at St. Alban's for two years, and now I am with St. Matthew's in National City as vicar. I am a pastoral care specialist.
Nominee’s Statement in Favor of Their Candidacy: I would be honored to serve on the Standing Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego. Throughout my ministry, I have come to appreciate that the strength of the Church lies not only in the gifts of individual leaders, but in faithful collaboration, prayerful discernment, and a shared commitment to the mission of Christ.
Serving in a variety of congregational settings has taught me the importance of listening carefully, respecting different perspectives, and seeking solutions that strengthen both local parishes and the wider Church. I believe the Standing Committee plays a vital role in supporting the Bishop, providing wise counsel, and helping the Diocese remain faithful to its mission while responding to new opportunities and challenges.
If elected, I would seek to contribute thoughtfully, with humility, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation. I value open communication, careful stewardship, and decisions grounded in prayer and the teachings of our faith. I would also hope to bring a pastoral perspective that reflects the diverse experiences of our congregations and the communities they serve.
I see this opportunity as another way to serve Christ and the people of this Diocese. It would be a privilege to work alongside others in supporting the life, mission, and future of the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of San Diego.
