FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Diocesan Convention?
Diocesan Convention is the annual gathering of clergy and lay delegates from congregations across the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego. Convention conducts the business of the diocese, elects leaders, adopts a budget, considers resolutions, and gathers for worship and fellowship.

I’m a delegate. How do I register for Convention?

Delegate registration is a two-step process. First, the clergy person in charge or the designated parish administrator receives an email from the Diocese requesting certification of their congregation's elected delegates, alternates, and voting clergy. Once a delegate has been certified, they will automatically receive an email with a registration form. In the second step, delegates complete that form to confirm their attendance and provide any dietary, accessibility, or childcare needs. Delegates are considered fully registered once both steps have been completed.

If you believe you’ve been elected by your congregation as a delegate to Convention and have not received an email requesting registration, please email Diocesan Registrar Alyson Terry for more information.

How do I register as a visitor?

A visitor registration form is available on the Convention website. Visitor registration is required for attendance at Convention.

Who can attend Convention?
Convention is open to clergy, elected delegates, alternates, diocesan staff, exhibitors, volunteers, and guests. Only clergy and certified lay delegates may vote.

How many delegates does my congregation receive?
Each congregation is allotted delegates in accordance with diocesan canons and the church’s average Sunday attendance. You can review Title I, Canon 4.03 – Election and Number of Lay Delegates here.

What should delegates do before Convention?
Delegates should review the Convention website for proposed resolutions, election information, and budget materials before arriving.

What happens during Convention?

How are elections conducted?
Eligible delegates and clergy vote electronically for diocesan leadership positions, deputies to General Convention, and other elected bodies as required.

Can visitors attend the Eucharist?

Will meals be provided?
