Nominated for
General Convention Deputation
The Rev. Kate Flexer
St. Francis, Pauma Valley
Nominee’s Bio: Ordained in 2000, I have served in congregations large and small in California and New York. I have also served the wider church as GC Deputy (2024), Secretary of Convention, Diocesan Trustee, and Chair of the HR Committee (New York); member of the Commission on Ministry (El Camino Real, California); and Family Camp leader and camp chaplain in California and New York. I have been extensively engaged in ecumenical clergy formation through The Ministry Collaborative and in interfaith work with Jewish and Muslim groups in New York. I have been in San Diego since March 2025, when I began as rector of St Francis in Pauma Valley.
Nominee’s Statement in Favor of Their Candidacy: Although new to this diocese, I served as deputy to the last General Convention in 2024. I knew the work would be interesting, but I was profoundly moved to find the experience so hopeful and inspiring. There are many young people and people of color stepping forward in leadership in our church, and so many important issues being handled with such faithfulness. Even through the laborious work of committees and caucusing, the Holy Spirit is so unavoidably present that good results come out of some of the most compromised processes! I would be honored to be part of San Diego's deputation to the 2027 convention.
