Nominated for
Standing Committee
The REv. Douglas Worthington
All Soul’s, Point Loma
Nominee’s Bio: I am a life-long Christian who found the Episcopal Church's expression of faith about twenty years ago and knew I was, at last, home, in so very many rich, affirming and equipping ways. While I had experienced--and evaded!--Jesus' calling me to ordained ministry for decades, it wasn't very many years into my Episcopal journey that I found myself, at last, saying Yes to Him.
Soon I entered the Church's discernment process, and in 2017, after twenty-five years of practicing corporate law in New Jersey, I began my seminary education in Virginia. I was ordained to the priesthood in 2020, when I began serving as priest-in-charge of a lovely parish in rural Kent, Connecticut.
A few years on, I felt the Holy Spirit's finger tapping me on the shoulder: I was being called to a new place, but I shouldn't go looking for it; it would come to me. And sure enough, very soon, I was introduced to the wonderful folks at All Souls' in Point Loma. Through the abundant grace of God, ours has been a labor of deep love, abiding mutuality and constantly unfolding possibility, ever since.
Nominee’s Statement in Favor of Their Candidacy: I am a person who both appreciates and seeks out operations, order and organization. And, closing in on the end of my sixth decade, I'm finally able to acknowledge that! It is an aspect of who God made me that I’d very much like to share it with my diocesan family.
There is, I believe, opportunity for ministry ... pastoral care ... formation ... charity ... even evangelism ... in the administration of the Church and its institutions and processes. While the 'business' of the Church is neither its purpose nor its mission, it is, nevertheless, an invitation to share, partake of and participate in God's grace; jointly discern God's will; and corporately live out Jesus' teaching to love God and neighbor.
Therefore, I would be honored and humbled to serve on the Standing Committee because I’d like to give back, in a meaningful and regular way, to the diocese I love; because I feel God has given me gifts of perspective and collegiality I would like to offer; and because who I am and what I've done make me genuinely interested in the work the Standing Committee does and the ways it can assist both Bishop Susan and the diocese as a whole. Thank you for your consideration!
