The REv. Colin Mathewson

St. Luke’s, North Park

Nominee’s Bio: The Rev. Colin Mathewson graduated from Valhalla High School in East County, San Diego and Stanford University with a degree in Urban Studies. He's since served as a campaign manager, community organizer, press assistant, executive assistant, foundation program officer, and as a volunteer in El Salvador before starting seminary in 2010. He and his wife Laurel graduated from The School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee in 2013 and served together as deacons and priests at St. Paul's Cathedral until becoming co-pastors at St. Luke’s Episcopal in North Park. He also had the privilege of concurrently serving St Matthew's National City for two years during the pandemic. He and Laurel have three kids who keep them busy and laughing, and Colin enjoys sports, cooking, eating, and reading. He also serves as a Navy chaplain in the reserves.

Nominee’s Statement in Favor of Their Candidacy: Colin served on Standing Committee for four years, including one year as president; served three terms as deputy at General Convention, including one term as delegation chair, has led worship in Spanish for four years at the Cathedral; has attended two Cursillos; and currently serves as a Navy chaplain in the reserves for the past three years. He's the board president of RefugeeNet and Uptown Community Services. As co-pastor, with his wife Laurel, of St Luke's North Park -- and as a pastor of St Matthew's National City as well -- he's had the privilege to learn from and be challenged by multigenerational, multicultural congregations. He's interested in getting back into diocesan-wide leadership in support of the bishop's strategic plan and passion for church growth.
