The REv. Brian Peterson

St. Brigid’s, Oceanside

Nominee’s Bio: The Rev. Brian Petersen serves as priest-in-charge of St. Brigid’s Episcopal Church in Oceanside. Ordained to the priesthood in 2022, he completed a Certificate of Anglican Studies at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific after earning degrees in Organizational Leadership from Azusa Pacific University and Theological Studies from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He is also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Prior to ordination in the Episcopal Church, Rev. Petersen worked as a church planter, starting missional communities for homeless youth in Portland, Oregon, and New York City. He also brings experience from the education and software industries, where he developed skills in organizational leadership, strategic planning, and innovation.

His ministry is shaped by a passion for accessible, inclusive, and creative expressions of church that meet people where they are and invite them into deeper engagement with God and community.

Nominee’s Statement in Favor of Their Candidacy: I am honored to stand for election to the Diocesan Executive Council. As priest-in-charge of St. Brigid’s, I have seen firsthand how connection and collaboration between diocesan leadership and local congregations leads to the fulfillment of God's mission for the church. My background in organizational leadership, church planting, and parish development equips me to contribute thoughtfully to the Council’s responsibility for stewarding our diocesan resources and carrying out the mission strategy of our church.

I am particularly interested in the opportunity to help create structures that support growth and innovation across our diocese. I would bring both creativity and a collaborative spirit to the work of connecting the wider vision of the Diocese with the practical aspects of ministry at the parish level. I believe our diocese is called to be bold, inclusive, and faithful in its witness, and I would be honored to serve in helping guide that mission.
