Nominated for

General Convention Deputation

The REv. Brian Peterson

St. Brigid’s, Oceanside

Nominee’s Bio: The Rev. Brian Petersen serves as priest-in-charge of St. Brigid’s Episcopal Church in Oceanside. Ordained to the priesthood in 2022, he completed a Certificate of Anglican Studies at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific after earning degrees in Organizational Leadership from Azusa Pacific University and Theological Studies from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He is also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Prior to ordination in the Episcopal Church, Rev. Petersen worked as a church planter, starting missional communities for homeless youth in Portland, Oregon, and New York City. He also brings experience from the education and software industries, where he developed skills in organizational leadership, strategic planning, and innovation.

His ministry is shaped by a passion for accessible, inclusive, and creative expressions of church that meet people where they are and invite them into deeper engagement with God and community.

Nominee’s Statement in Favor of Their Candidacy: I am excited to offer myself for election as a deputy to General Convention. General Convention provides the Episcopal Church with a unique opportunity to listen, discern, and act together on matters of faith, mission, and justice. As a church planter and priest-in-charge of St. Brigid’s Episcopal Church, I bring firsthand experience of how decisions made at the churchwide level impact local communities on the ground.

I am committed to lifting up perspectives from new and emerging congregations, as well as those often underrepresented in church structures. If elected, I would bring a passion for accessible and inclusive worship and ministry, a collaborative spirit, and a deep belief in the gifts of our tradition to carry out God’s mission in bold new ways.
