Nominated for

General Convention Deputation

the rev. cn. Richard hogue

St. Paul’s Cathedral, San Diego

Nominee’s personal bio: I grew up in northern Wisconsin, deeply rooted in the Episcopal tradition. After graduating from Wabash College in 2009, some formative experiences shaped my call, like volunteering in economically challenged areas of South Africa and serving in various capacities in the Episcopal diocese of Newark where he was raised up for ordination by All Saints, Hoboken. I went to Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, California from 2013-16. Following ordination in 2016, I served as a vicar of one and missioner for three other urban congregations in the diocese of Newark. I came to San Diego as Associate Rector at St. Andrew’s, Encinitas, in late 2017 and in April 2020 served as the vicar of Holy Cross. I accepted the call to St. Paul’s Cathedral in late 2021. I am a fan of the Packers, the NBA, Padres games at Petco Park, hiking, and the San Diego Zoo, as well as Star Wars, Star Trek, Disneyland, and dogs.

Nominee’s Statement in Favor of Their Candidacy: I have a breadth of experience in the Episcopal Church, from my rural upbringing in the Great Lakes region, to South Africa, urban NYC metro, suburban North County, and now as Canon for Congregational life at our Cathedral. I know what it's like as a solo priest in small congregations, and as part of a team in larger more resourced communities. I have served at General Convention before as an Official Youth Representative with seat and voice but no vote at General Convention (2003) and as a diocesan deputy (Eau Claire, 2006 & 09). I was a Canterbury Scholar in summer of 2017, getting to spend two weeks at the mother Cathedral. I have served as chair of our Commission on Ministry and am currently on Executive Council here in San Diego. I feel I bring a broad and nuanced perspective, and I would greatly appreciate your support.
