Nominated for

General Convention Deputation

The Rev. Richard Hogue Jr.

St. Paul’s Cathedral

Nominee’s Bio: I grew up in the Episcopal Diocese of Eau Claire (northwestern Wisconsin), went to Wabash College (2005-'09) in central Indiana, and then was a missionary for the Episcopal Church in South Africa ('09-'10). I returned to the US and worked as an intern for the Episcopal Diocese of Newark in various capacities ('10-'13) before going to seminary in Berkeley, CA ('13-'16), where I met my wife, Maura. I was ordained in Newark in '16, and had the good fortune and blessing of being called to San Diego through St. Andrew's, Encinitas ('17-'21), served part-time at Holy Cross, Carlsbad ('20-'21), and now St. Paul's, San Diego.

Nominee’s Statement in Favor of Their Candidacy: It would be a return to action at the wider church level for me, as I served as part of the Official Youth Presence to the 2003 General Convention on behalf of Province V, and then as a deputy from the diocese of Eau Claire in '06 and '09. I also represented the Episcopal Service Corps and Church Divinity School of the Pacific in the exhibit hall in '12 and '15, respectively. In the wider Anglican Communion, I've had the good fortune serving the Young Adult Service Corps in South Africa ('09-'10) of studying the Anglican Church in Hong Kong ('16), and being an invited guest of Canterbury Cathedral along with forty or so others from across the Communion ('17). While I realize that time is short and there is a great deal of business to conduct, I also love the "family gathering" aspect of convention, and the conviviality that allows us to hold debates and discussion in good faith with a global perspective in mind. It would be an honor and privilege to return to the work and relationship building that takes place at this level of our common life.
